Gaulanta Kala’Stine Character Design

Gaulanta Kala’Stine is a dragonborn druid venturing forth into The Yarning Portal!

I was recently commissioned by an organiser of a Dungeons and Dragons group to design character portraits for each player character of their campaign. I was given in-depth descriptions of each character’s appearance and personality, as well as a photo of each player’s character piece (cute little crochet dolls) as reference.

Gaulanta was § lots of fun to create. Firstly, she was an Dragonborn, which allowed me to create an anthropomorphic character.
I initially drew her seated with a tail. The client later informed me that they would like all the commissions in portrait format, so we agreed on a pose where the character is still reading whilst walking. I was also informed that dragon born don’t normally have tails (and Gaulanta is jealous of the fact Vir’Tue has one) so I removed it.

Gaulanta is an archaeologist by profession, so I went with more sandy, fossil coloured palettes for her design.
