I was approached last year by a local business woman from my hometown, looking for an artist (from the town) to create a map design to be printed on tea towels which would be sold as souvenirs at local shops. All money raised by the sales of these towels are currently being donated to a local Day Care centre for the elderly in Kirriemuir.
The client wanted a design that highlighted specific Landmarks. Kirriemuir has many memorable places, features and people so we picked a handful of main attractions to illustrate and the rest were featured in a word border around the edge of the towel.
The most popular aspect of Kirriemuir over the decades has been that it is the birthplace of JM Barrie, the author of ‘Peter Pan’. To commemorate this further, little aspects from the fairytale are dotted around the map, such as; the Crocodile with the clock, Tinkerbell fluttering around and the Lost Boys out on a hunt!
